Point Debit Card Changes, See What’s New
Point is an app that gives you a bank account and a debit card. But this is not your normal debit card. It earns cash back on most purchases, and offers some sweet bonuses from time to time. It also comes with a $99 annual fee. You can read our review here.
But now the account and the card are changing a bit. Your Point account balance, which is currently maintained by LendingClub Bank, National Association will be transferred to an account maintained by Column National Association. This transfer will be on the earlier of the date on which you activate your new card or December 1, 2021.
Point members will get all-new rewards and benefits, including more Access Offers, travel accident insurance, event ticket protection, and rideshare protection. There’s also double cash back through the end of the year. Let’s look at the details.
What’s New
Here are some of the new benefits:
- Earn double cash-back rewards through December 31st. That means you’ll earn:
- 10x on subscriptions
- 6x on food delivery and rideshare
- 2x on everything else.
- Extended Warranty – Doubles an item’s manufacturing warranty for up to an additional year — offering extra protection for purchases you make with Point Card.
- Rideshare Protection – Protects you and your property from unexpected damage at the hands of rideshare services.
- Event Ticket Protection – Concert cancelled? You’re covered with Point Card, whether the vendor reimburses you or not.
- Travel Accident Insurance – Additional peace of mind for trips near and far.
Earn More
The Point Debit Card usually has ongoing offers for select merchants. Right now you can earn:
- 20x points at HBO Max
- 10x points on Revel Mopeds
- 5x at Whole Foods, Amazon, Costco, Trader Joe’s, Chipotle, Best Buy, Coffee Shops
Conclusion
Point accounts will move from LendingClub Bank to Column National Association. However, users shouldn’t see any major changes because of that.
But you will get more purchase protections and insurance and double cash back through the end of the year. You will earn 10x on subscriptions and 6x on food delivery and rideshare purchases. Plus you get 2x on all other purchases, instead of the usual 1X.
