Review Of Hotel Indigo Atlanta – Vinings
On a recent visit to my parents we stayed at a very nice hotel on the north end of Atlanta, The Hotel Indigo Atlanta – Vinings. This was my first time staying at a Hotel Indigo and I came away impressed. The brand started in 2004 and it has more of a boutique feel. This location actually felt like you were staying at someone’s cottage or summer house.
Overview
The Indigo brand was launched by IHG in an attempt to compete with SPG’s W hotels and Hyatts Andaz properties. It is a trendier, more hip brand in the IHG portfolio. I found the quaintness of the design pleasing. It was nice to stay in something that wasn’t a simple rectangle protruding into the sky.
The hotel has an award price of 30,000 IHG points which will almost never be a good use of points here. The hotel usually hovers around the $100 mark rarely reaching the $200 level, the price level when using points would make sense.
I booked the room for a rate of $99.64 for a Friday night. The total was $118.59 with all of the taxes and fees included. For the stay my wife earned 997 points for the room plus 498 points for her platinum status, earned by carrying the IHG credit card. Since she paid with her IHG card she will get another 593 points. There were bonuses attached to her account from the Accelerate Promotion. She received 2,000 points for staying once, and 1,500 points for paying with her card. A total haul of 5,588 points or a rebate of 28% on our paid stay (using a .6 cents per point valuation). We decided to turn down the 500 point welcome amenity in lieu of 2 – 20 ounce Cokes.

Location
The Hotel Indigo Atlanta – Vinings is located on the north end of the Atlanta area. It is 22 miles from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, a $22-29 Uber ride. The hotel is 10 miles from midtown, a $10-15 Uber ride. And, it is 2.5 miles from the new Sun Trust field (baseball stadium) and surrounding Battery Atlanta area, a $7-9 Uber ride.
There are approximately 10-15 bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
What I did like about the location is it made everything in the city of Atlanta accessible while still giving you a suburb area vibe. It would be a good option for anyone who wanted to stay a little ways outside of the city center area. This would mean a little more drive time to get to some places. That is a trade off everyone would need to weigh themselves.
Check In
Check in was simple and without issue. We were offered points or a free drink because of our Platinum status. The front desk associate allowed us to grab two 20 oz Cokes.
Room
The room was nicely decorated with modern colors and furnishing choices. Everything looked fairly new, except for the really nasty HVAC vent cover. Not sure what they were thinking with that one (picture in the gallery below). How do you redo an entire hotel and get cheap on the vent cover? Crazy!
The bathroom was a decent size with nice Aveda products. There was a very large shower, but no tub. The beds were also very comfy. I really liked the distressed table with the Keurig machine on it. I thought that was a nice touch.
Amenities
There is a nice looking bar with a small menu off of the lobby. It was pretty standard as lobby bars go but it did have a nice decor. It had a nice use of dark wood and light stone.
There was a nice sitting area off of the lobby where people could take in breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The pool was closed for the winter when we were there but you could tell it would be very nice in the summer. It had plenty of seating, fire pits, a hot tub, and a waterfall.
Conclusion
After this stay I am a fan of the Indigo brand. They try to make it feel like you are staying at a friend’s house and that is the feeling I got, as much as I could at a hotel.
This may not be an ideal location if you are spending all of your time in Midtown or Downtown. But if you are thinking of taking in all that Atlanta has to offer, checking out a baseball game, going to The Battery, checking out Buckhead, Downtown, and Midtown, this puts you near them all.
It also allows you to get out of the chaos of the Midtown area and be in a more suburban feel, if that is what you are looking for. The nice pool area and restaurants near by make it a great option for some.
Then you throw in the affordable, low $100’s price tag and you have yourself a winner.

Let us know how Paris hotel is would he nice to know a budget hotel
Going to try the hotel Indigo Paris Opera next summer. Works well with location, and to accommodate our family of 5 in a duplex suite. Interestingly located on a pedestrian only dead end street very close to the Opera Metro station. I hope it is as good as it looks.
Sounds like a great set up. If the other Indigo hotels are like this one I think you will like it. Nice that you found a hotel that works for 5 people too!
