Sam's Club Fees

Sam’s Club Fees Are Going Up Soon

Sam’s Club is raising membership fees for the first time in nine years. Walmart, which owns Sam’s Club, has announced that both membership levels will get more expensive starting on October 17.

The retailer’s basic Club membership will cost $50, up from the current price of $45. The price for the basic level membership has been the same for the last nine years. The Plus membership’s fee will rise to $110 from $100, the first increase since it debuted in 1999.

Kath McLay, president and CEO of Sam’s Club, announced the changes in a letter to members. “I am grateful that you’ve chosen Sam’s Club, and remain committed to ensuring that you get the most from your membership,” said McLay.

For renewals this year, Sam’s Club will give back $5 in Sam’s Cash to Club members and $10 to Plus members, the retailer said.

The price increase brings Sam’s Club closer to its rivals Costco and BJ’s. But even with the price hike, Sam’s Club will still have the cheapest membership pricing. Costco charges $60 for its Gold Star and Business memberships, and $120 for the Gold Star Executive and Business Executive plans.

  1. I have also seen a Chase offer for $10 off membership. Could certainly be a money maker if you also have that.

  2. The SO and I alternate buying/cancelling Sam’s accounts every year because the signup bonuses are so lucrative. We are currently enjoying the $120 of Uber credits from our last signup. I would hold out until the holidays when they start ramping up the freebies.
