Sinemia Now Offers an Unlimited Plan, Takes Shot at Moviepass

Sinemia has been out for blood ever since Moviepass took a nose dive into the oblivion.  They added a 3 movie plan to match Moviepass, they have taken shots at Moviepass in the press, and Sinemia now offers an unlimited plan like Moviepass used to.  There is one catch, it costs more than Moviepass’ old $9.95 plan.

Details

The details of the unlimited plan are as follows:

  • The plan costs $29.99 a month.  It is billed a year in advance unless you want to pay a one time additional initiation fee of $29.99.
  • It only works for 2D movies
  • 1 movie per 24 hours
  • This is a “fall promotion” and it is intended to be a limited time offer

There are always risks when paying for something a year upfront.  Be sure to pay for it with a card that is customer friendly should Sinemia go out of business etc.  American Express is the best there is when dealing with things like that.

Removes Classic Plan

It looks like Sinemia also removed their Classic movie plan when adding the unlimited plan.  That plan allowed you to see 2 – 2D movies per month for $7.99 per month (paid a year in advance). They probably removed it during the unlimited plan promotion so that people don’t get sticker shock comparing the two prices.

Conclusion

Sinemia took a shot at Moviepass when announcing the plan, saying that it’s pricing is sustainable.  I am not entirely sure about that unless they limit the plan to one viewing per movie like Moviepass ended up doing later on down the line.  There are people out there who will be going to a movie pretty much every day on this plan.  And since they don’t have the buying power of Moviepass I doubt they will get as much of a break from the smaller theater groups.

While it is great that Sinemia now offers an Unlimited Plan I still think the AMC Stubs A-List program is the best overall, if you have an AMC near you.  The AMC A-List program allows you to see 3D and 4D movies and from what I hear it has an easy to use app.  That was one of my biggest knocks on Sinemia in our review.  Sinemia’s app is clunky and has too many hoops to jump through in my opinion.
