Spirit Airlines No Longer Charges Change Fees
Spirit Airlines has made a significant change that will give passengers more flexibility with their travel plans. The Florida-based airline revealed Monday that it no longer charges change fees or cancelation fees.
This move come Spirit comes just days after Frontier Airlines also removed change fees for most fares. Spirit announced the news with a nota on its website saying that “cancelation fees are gone for everyone” and “change fees are gone for all.”
Spirit is eliminating these fees on all fares. Frontier on the other hand still charges change fees on basic fares.
Spirit Airlines didn’t charge passengers for changes made within 24 hours after booking, or changes made 60 days prior to departure date. But it has pricey fees for other changes. It charged $119 for ticket changes made 0 to 6 days before departure, $99 for changes made 7 to 30 days prior, and $69 for changes made 31 to 59 days prior to departure.
These positive changes come in the heels of a new rule introduced by the Department of Transportation, which targets airlines that charge customers surprise junk fees.
