Spirit Airlines is offering frequent travelers a fast-track to the best benefits of the Free Spirit program. While you don’t can many luxurious perks, you can enjoy things like free carry-on and checked bags, seat selection, onboard snacks and drinks.
The airline today announced a new partnership with StatusMatch.com, which allows elite members of more than 30 loyalty programs to apply to receive Free Spirit Gold or Free Spirit Silver Status for one year.
Guests who hold frequent traveler status with 16 airline and 16 hotel loyalty programs throughout the Americas are eligible to match their status to Spirit. To view the full list of qualified programs and apply for this limited-time offer, visit Spirit.StatusMatch.com.
But this status match is not free. For $49 you can match to Free Spirit Silver Status and receive Shortcut Security & Boarding, free seat selection at check-in and fee waivers for award redemptions and overweight bags.
Perks of Free Spirit Gold Status, for a promotional rate of $99, include the benefits of Silver Status plus a free carry-on and checked bag, Flight Flex, free seat selection at booking and a complimentary drink and snack on board.

Days before this status match came out I had randomly found a different Spirit status match, which appeared to be directly operated by Spirit, not a third party. The offer was a direct match only to other airline status so long as it was earned not by another match. There was no charge, if approved you would be given 90 days to earn 2500 SQMs (via credit card spending was allowed), and if you secured the SQMs in time, your status match was good for all of 2023 and 2024. I applied, and have a preliminary response asking for more documents (or the original docs did not correctly submit). Hopefully will play out given we have 200k+ Spirit miles to use.
Sorry I most likely will never fly Spirit. You all know why without my saying so.
Done. The cost of add-ons at Spirit are so ridiculous that using this benefit just once will more than pay for itself. I expect this offer will close rapidly, just like at Frontier last year.
