Citi ThankYou Promo, Get 33% More Points When You Transfer TYP to Hilton

Citi ThankYou rewards program has a new transfer promotion that can get you 33% more Hilton Honors points. Let’s take a look at the offer, and whether it makes sense.

The Offer

Limited Time Offer: Enjoy 2 Hilton Honors™ Points for each ThankYou® Point you transfer by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 20, 2017. Promotion Terms and Conditions apply.

Key Terms

  • Offer expires 11:59 p.m. ET on September 20, 2017
  • Points can only be transferred in 1,000 points increments
  • Points will transfer within 3 business days, but usually within 24 hours
  • See promo page

Conclusion

Transferring ThankYou Points to Hilton is usually not a good idea, especially at the regular rate of 1,000:1,500. Hilton points are generally valued about 0.4-0.5 center a piece, while ThankYou Points are valued about 1.5 cents each. When strictly looking at valuation, even with this promotion, at 1,000:2,000, transferring points doesn’t make much sense.

But it all depends on what value you put on these currencies and what you currently need. If a few more thousand Hilton points will put you on your way to a great redemption for example, then it is definitely worth it.
