Transfer Citi ThankYou Points to Preferred Hotels & Resorts

As of today, Citi cardmembers have a new option to use points for hotel stays. The Citi ThankYou program has added the I Prefer Hotel Rewards as a transfer partner. This is the loyalty program for Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Transfers are already live and the transfer ratio is surprisingly good at 1:4. That means that you can get 4,000 I Prefer points for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points that you transfer.

This is the 19th transfer partner for the Citi ThankYou program. You can see them all here.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts is a collection of over 650 independent hotels around the world, including many luxury options. Loyalty members include several perk and benefits such as exclusive member rates, points for future stays, and hotel benefits such as early check-in and free Wi-Fi.

The Preferred Hotels & Resorts website notes that reward nights start at just 15,000 points. However, most of the top properties can cost 100,000 to 150,000 points per night. Even at that high cost, this new new partnership may provide good value as the cash price can easily be over $1,000 per night.

The main issue with the I Prefer program is actually finding award availability. From a quick search most of the properties only show cash prices or cash+ points.

One example where you can book with points is Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. You can book for 100,000 points per night, or $345.80/night in late November. That’s not a bad deal for 25,000 ThankYou points.

  1. assuming the Preferred hotel is accepting points reservations this looks to me to be a good alternative to SLH. The big if is the hotel accepting points reservations.
