United is Offering a 30% Bonus on Transferred Hotel Points

United Airlines is running a promotion that will earn you extra miles when you transfer hotel points. Let’s take a look at the details and if it’s worth it.

The Offer

For a limited time, your points-to-miles conversions can earn you a special bonus. Exchange hotel points for award miles and earn 30 percent bonus award miles, up to 25,000 miles.

Bonus award miles are yours in three easy steps:

  • Register for this special offer.
  • Convert hotel points into United MileagePlus miles by November 30, 2018.
  • Earn 30% bonus miles on all points-to-miles transfers, up to 25,000 miles.

Key Terms

Conclusion

Transferring hotel points to United miles will not make sense for most programs. Transfer rates are terrible for most options. Marriott is the only one that could make sense. It has a transfer rate of 3:1.1 and on top of that you always get a 15,000 points bonus when you transfer at least 60,000 Marriott points. And that’s before this 30% bonus promotion from United. With all that stacked together, you would receive 35,750 United miles if you transfer 60,000 Marriott points.

It’s possible to make this transfer even better with Marriott’s travel packages. They’re not supposed to work based on Marriott’s new terms, but United’s website and the promotion page doesn’t have any wording against it. So it’s up to you if you want to take the gamble. If you have any recent data points, please let us know.
