Should You Take the Offer?
Normally, if you have never had the Amex Platinum card then taking this upgrade offer will trigger the once per lifetime language on the Amex Platinum card. So you would technically not be eligible for a future welcome offer on the card (the enforcement doesn’t always match the terms here).
But the 125,000 points offer is better than what’s normally available as a signup bonus, so it could be worth it for some even if they never had the Amex Platinum Card in the past. You should still check the current “as high as” 175,000 points bonus, which often ends up being just 80,000.
Final Thoughts
This is an amazing upgrade offer for those who have the Amex Gold card. You can earn up to 125,000 points after spending $6,000 in six months.
Check your Amex Offers section for the offer, it should be right at the top. Let us know if you are targeted!

I redeemed about 400k MR’s over the past year and this upgrade offer was what I was waiting for! As someone who previously held a Platinum, but still hold a Green and Gold, the 75k upgrade offer that has been in my offers for months wasn’t good enough. Saw the 125k offer yesterday morning and jumped on. Upgraded my Green to Platinum. So, still able to maximize Gold.
