Citi has targeted many cardholders in recent days with an offer to save 5% on PayPal purchases. The offer was sent out by email to eligible cardholders. I didn’t receive an email but found it in my Citi Offers and was able to activate it. Let’s see the details.

The Offer

Earn 5% back for a limited time with PayPal. Activate this new offer to earn up to $75 back as a statement credit on eligible PayPal purchases with your linked Card through 03/31/2023.

This offer is showing up for most Citi cards. If you haven’t received an email, you can check your Citi Offers here to see if you are eligible.

  1. How does this interact with the Custom Cash card, where you get 5x on your “highest spend category?” If I spend $400 paying my taxes on Paypal and $300 on groceries, do I get 5x on both? Or does Paypal become my highest spend category, overriding the grocery category?
