Earn Up to $600 Bonus with New US Bank Checking Account
US Bank has a bonus of up to $600 for new checking accounts. You can open this account at a branch, online or over the phone, but you need to be in US Bank’s footprint to do so. Let’s see the details.
The Offer
To earn up to $600, open a Bank Smartly Checking account online, in a branch or over the phone with an opening deposit of $25. Use the Apply button in the promotion page and the promo code will automatically apply. If you apply from a different page, you’ll need to manually enter this promo code to both account applications: 2023MAR. Here’s how it works:
Then complete the following activities within 90 days:
- Enroll in the U.S. Bank Mobile App or online banking.
- Complete two or more direct deposits.
Your bonus is determined by the total amount of your direct deposits:
- Earn $200 when your direct deposits total $3,000 to $5,999.99.
- Earn $400 when your direct deposits total $6,000 to $9,999.99.
- Earn $600 when your direct deposits total $10,000 or more.
Key Terms
- Offer is available almost nationwide. You must be in a state where they have physical branches.
- Offer is not valid if you or any signer on the account has an existing U.S. Bank consumer checking account, had a U.S. Bank consumer checking account in the last two year(s), or received other U.S. Bank bonus offers within the past two year(s).
- Current US Bank employees are not eligible.
- The checking bonus will be deposited into your new checking account within 60 days of direct deposit verification and verification of enrollment in online banking or the U.S. Bank Mobile App as long as your account is open and has a positive balance.
- Bonus will be reported as interest earned on IRS form 1099-INT and recipient is responsible for any applicable taxes.
- A $6.95 monthly fee can be waived with combined monthly direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more; or minimum average account balance of $1,500 or more; or if you have a U.S. Bank credit card.
Conclusion
This is one of the best offers that we have seen from US Bank. You need to complete direct deposits totaling $10,000 or more (some data points on what works), and enroll in either U.S. Bank online banking or the U.S. Bank Mobile App to get the maximum bonus of $600. The account is also easy to keep fee-free.

Did they change the terms? I do not see where it says it must be at a physical location? On the website I see disclosure says online, in person or over the phone.
“A minimum deposit of $25 is required to open a U.S. Bank Smartly® Checking account. Earn a $200, $400 or $600 bonus by opening a new U.S. Bank Smartly® Checking account (excluding Safe Debit Account) online, in a branch or over the phone from February 21 through April 11, 2023 for the Charlotte, NC market, and from March 1 through April 11, 2023 for all other markets.”
Update: I tried to apply. It asked me if I was a USB account holder = No. Asked me for Zip code = FL. popup said no USB in my location if Active-Duty Military call the phone #. I went back as I once had an USB old mortgage account, and I selected Yes to account holder. I was unable to find my old mortgage account and login. I tried a third time say account holder = No, asked for my zip and it let me fill out the application this time. I got to the end, and it said, “unfortunately I have not been approved” I assume it’s due to my location in FL as I have nothing negative in my banking or credit history.
Use a portal like MyPoints or Swagbucks to get an extra bonus too
As indicated…you NEED to be in a state that they operate…
Guess how many states US BANK operates in… LESS than 1/2 of them!
If you have an existing relationship, you bypass that restriction. I’m in Georgia, opened a credit card last year, and was approved for this bank account.
Georgia locations = 0 https://locations.usbank.com/content/locations/index/georgia.html
never had a USB account before so i think is worth to do, thus increasing my chance of getting improved for their credit cards of which i have 0.
but i dont see any mention in their T&Cs of how long the account needs to stay open for. am i missing it?
