Changes Coming March 1, 2022 for Alaska Redemptions on AA Flights

Alaska Airlines Will Charge More for Checked Bags

If you plan on flying with Alaska Airlines next year, it will cost you more to check in your luggage. The airline has published the new fares on its website, adding another $5 to the current fees.

Alaska Airlines will raise checked bag fees from $30 to $35 for economy passengers without any mileage status or upgrades from a credit card. A second bag will go from $40 to $45. For any bags after that, there’s no change, as it will remain at $150. The new baggage fees go into effect on January 2, 2024.

Alaska Airlines hasn’t raised baggage fees in almost six years. It increased these fees by $10 back in 2018. And back then, almost all domestic airlines increased these fees. So it’s interesting to see if that also happens in 2024.

It’s worth noting that if you were previously entitled to a free checked bag, you will still be able to check bags for free next year as well. Those with Alaska Airlines credit cards and elite status may be entitled to up to three free bags.
