Amazon Prime Free Same Day Shipping
Amazon has really been adding quite a lot of value to their Prime service over the past couple of years. While they did raise the price to $99 per year, they have beefed up their video offerings and even added free music streaming. Now they are adding another benefit, but only for some people.
Here is how they describe the new feature:
We’ve made it simple to find the stuff that you want, and get it on your doorstep before bedtime. Just look for the Prime FREE Same-Day logo on eligible items while shopping, or choose it in the filter menu to see all the items you can get tonight. Order by noon, and you’ll get it by 9pm, seven days a week. Or order later in the day with Prime FREE One-Day to get free delivery tomorrow.
Which Cities
Oh how I wish this was available in Las Vegas. Talk about instant gratification. While it isn’t available in the Las Vegas area, here are the 14 metropolitan areas that now have this service:
- San Francisco Bay Area
- Los Angeles
- San Diego
- Phoenix
- Dallas/Fort Worth
- Seattle/Tacoma
- Indianapolis
- Tampa Bay Area
- Atlanta
- Washington D.C.
- Baltimore
- New York City
- Philadelphia
- Boston
Fine Print
You can find out everything about the program here, but the only stipulation seems to be that the order needs to be $35 or more in order to receive free same day or next day shipping. Orders under $35 will incur a $5.99 charge.
Conclusion
I sincerely hope they decide to roll this out to other areas (Las Vegas) soon, but for Amazon Prime members in the above mentioned areas, this is an incredible value. For most orders you have now been upgraded to at least next day shipping which is huge since you get the convenience of online shopping without having to wait a long time for merchandise.

I totally agree with you. What a great development. I just hope it moves to the next-tier-down markets (like LAS and PDX) soon. Very promising that they are starting out with such a significant footprint. It will be interesting to see what kind of competitive reactions this causes.
