American AAdvantage Shopping Bonus Promotion

I really love shopping portal promotions and earn thousands of extra miles every year because of them. We generally see promotions around Back to School and the Holidays, but this year we have seen other smaller promotions as well. AAdvantage Shopping is running one of these deals this week.

The Offer

  • Spend $200 and earn 500 bonus miles

Key Terms

  • Promotion runs from 10/12/16 through 10/18/16 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”),
  • Member will earn a one-time bonus of 500 AAdvantage® miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard AAdvantage® miles earned from shopping online through the AAdvantage eShoppingSMmall.
  • This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $200 or more.
  • “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.

Analysis

This works out to an extra 2.5X miles on the $500 in spend. Since you get the bonus in addition to the normal earnings, you can do quite well. I still recommend comparing portal rates at a site like Cash Back Monitor to make sure you are getting the best return.
