American Airlines Drops and Delays Several International Routes

American Airlines has revealed several updates regarding some its international routes, resuming some, while delaying or dropping others.

The Fort Worth-based airline American Airlines announced Thursday it will be operating daily nonstop flights from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Auckland, New Zealand starting on Oct. 29. The route will be in operation through March 25, 2023, on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The Los Angeles – Auckland route route is on hold at least for now.

American Airlines announced the Auckland route back in late 2019 with plans to start flying in October of 2020, but it was delayed due to the pandemic. This route will complement direct flights between Melbourne, Australia and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) operated by Qantas.

There are more changes to American Airlines’ international schedule as reported by View from the Wing.

The Seattle – Bangalore, India route continues to be delayed. It was first announced back in 2020, with plans to launch late that year. But for now, the earliest seems to be the summer of  2023. The same timeline applied to the Dallas – Beijing and Seattle – Shanghai routes as China’s borders are still closed due to Beijing’s strict zero-Covid policy.

American Airlines also had plans to launch Dallas Fort Worth – Tel Aviv flights, but that route has now been eliminated.

Another route that will have the same fate is Dallas – Lima, Peru. All Lima service will move over to the Miami hub as of November 3, 2022 because of low demand. The same goes for service from New York (JFK) to Cali and Medellín, Colombia. Both cities are still served from Miami.
