American Airlines Offers Pilots Triple Pay for Extra July Trips
Earlier this month, two American Airlines’ subsidiary regional carriers said they are dramatically increasing their pay for pilots. Piedmont Airlines and Envoy Air gave pilots a 50% pay bump, as they were losing an average of 25 pilots a month.
But now, as thing continue to get worse with higher demand and pilot shortages, the airlines are offering even more money for pilots who pick up extra shifts.
American Airlines’ regional carrier Envoy Air is offering pilots triple pay to pick up trips for most of next month, an effort the airline says will help it avoid flight disruptions.
“Super critical coverage has been declared for” July 2 to 31 for all bases, according to a note sent to Envoy pilots on Monday that was seen by CNBC. “Any open time flown during this time frame will be paid at 300%. Thank you in advance for your help.”
“We are into our peak flying season and we want to ensure that we can operate dependably for our customers,” said Ric Wilson, vice president of flight operations for Envoy. He added that triple pay will only be offered if there are open trips available, and currently he says that Envoy is fully covered with its flight schedule for the summer.
Summer cancellations are expected to get worse across all major airlines, especially over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Delta Air Lines is even allowing travelers to change their tickets for free during the weekend as it expects operational challenges.

And even with triple pay, these petulant children will still picket and complain about how bad they have it while destroying the plans and dreams of people who have in some cases saved for years to fly on their crappy airlines.
