American Airlines to Offer Complimentary Wi-Fi Soon?

Flying American Airlines soon? You might get lucky with complimentary inflight Wi-Fi.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline is launching a limited time trial of free Wi-Fi starting next week.

The trial will be on three routes only, on both directions: Between hub Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina and Raleigh-Durham International Airport; Charlotte and Jacksonville International Airport in Florida; and between Miami International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

The news was shared in an internal staff memo and reported by CNBC. With this trial, the airline will be “assessing customer take rates for inflight Wi-Fi, evaluating our provider and aircraft capacity, and – perhaps most important – measuring the impact to customer satisfaction via NPS scores.” The Net Promoter Score is a metric used to measure customer loyalty and satisfaction.

Many airlines are already offering free messaging or Wi-Fi or plan to do so in the near future. American Airlines on the other hand, has some of the highest prices for inflight Wi-Fi, costing as much as $20.
