Targeted Bonuses for Adding Authorized Users to Amex Cards
American Express has brought back a generous offer for adding Authorized Users to credit card accounts. These offers are sent by mail, email or show up online when you log into your accounts. Let’s take a look at the offer.
Amex Platinum Offer

Key Terms
- Additional Card Members must be added all at once.Â
- The 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points will be posted to the Basic Card Member’s account within 8–12 weeks after an Additional Card Member makes $500 in purchases.
- Your purchases as the Basic Card Member will not count toward the $500 spend requirement.
- The Additional Card Member’s Social Security Number and Date of Birth are not required to submit this request. However, this information must be provided by you or the Additional Card Member within 60 days after the Card is issued, or the Additional Card will be canceled.
Conclusion
This is a great offer, as it gives you 10X MR points up to 20,000 MR points total. The only issue here is that you need to add Authorized Users and that would show up as another credit card on that person’s credit report. If that’s not a problem and you were targeted, then it is definitely worth it. These bonuses are usually send out to Platinum and Gold cardholders.
Just beware that recently there’s been some issues with those who get these bonuses earlier in the year. Amex has been freezing some accounts after they receive Authorized User bonuses or referral bonuses. I would suggest completing spending requirement with organic spend so if issues arise, you have nothing to worry about.
Please let us know if you were targeted.

Only issue? Definitely worth it? I don’t have the offer, so I can’t say categorically that what you are saying is potentially misleading with respect to the Platinum card, so let me lay out two alternatives:
1. You are forgetting that an additional Platinum AU is typically $175 (or first 3 for $175). which strikes me as an issue that impinges on the worth of chasing 5,000 MR points for $175 or at best 15,000 for $175 (which I acknowledge might be worth it for some folks).
2. You know something I don’t, which is that the offer on the Platinum card waives the fees for AUs, in which case I apologize and suggest that you make this great fact explicitly known to all.
You can get a Gold AU cards for no fee with a platinum card.
Got it. Now it is explicit that your post is about adding Gold AUs to a Platinum card.
They also send out these offers on regular Gold cards as well so these offers are not just for Platinum cardholders.
