Amex Centurion Lounge Hong Kong Review

The Hong Kong location of Centurion is located in terminal one near gate 62 of Hong Kong international Airport. I found it slightly difficult to find before asking someone but there are signs I should have paid more attention to. In comparison to other lounges in the Centurion Lounge network, this one is pretty middle of the road. When entering the lounge, the attendants will ask to see your ID, boarding pass & American Express card. (Centurion & Platinum members are free, other Amex cardholders pay $50 per person.)

Check-In and First Impressions

The agent checking me in was very quick and friendly, this was easily the shortest wait time I’ve ever had. As a whole the demeanor of the staff is very welcoming and everyone has a smile. The manager at the desk noticed me snapping photos and asked if I would like to be in a few. The first thing I noticed upon entering was the awesome view and floor to ceiling windows.

Amenities and Seating

The seating here is a wide-open space with different types of tables and chairs but definitely nothing offering any privacy or a chance to stretch out and get comfy. The comfort level is something I’ve always appreciated about the Las Vegas location that was missing here. There are a few private offices in a long hallway that could provide privacy.  The bar here is much longer than other Centurion lounges and definitely has more seating.

Food and Drink

There was a decent assortment of breakfast food including both traditional eastern and western options. I could have eaten an entire plate of their chicken dumplings if only I knew which sauce to use. There must have been 15 condiments to choose from and I’m pretty sure the only one I could identify for certain was ketchup. I was also really happy that they had a self service fridge with cans of soda and beer so I could take a Coke Zero for the road. There was also a freezer with mini ice creams and I may have taken one of each flavor for a total of 4.

Conclusion

The Centurion Lounge is consistently one of the best brands. While they have become more crowded over the years it’s still one of my most valued Platinum card perks and I enjoyed the lounge at HKG. I do wish they had more comfortable seating options. The food and staff was solid so overall I’d say it’s worth a visit.

  1. Hi, I don’t understand why anybody would like this lounge. Compared to anything else in HK and to any other centurion lounges, I’d call this a disgrace to the Centurion brand. The lounge is small, has no luggage storage area, tends to be super cramped, is not particularly comfortable and two days ago when I wanted to visit and take a shower I was told there is a 3 hour wait. Amex should not have opened this lounge. It gives its lounges bad name.

  2. For what it’s worth, if you are on an US-bound flight from HKG, you will not be allowed to carry on anything beverage containers with more than 3.4oz of liquid. Definitely not those cans of Coke Zero.

  3. I was really disappointed in the Centurion lounge in HKG. The seating really sucks and when I was there the food options were really limited. We ended up leaving the Centurion and going to the Priority Pass lounge (the name escapes me) nearby. The food was very good there. We noticed two other couples that made the same move as us. Something to think about if you are not happy at the Centurion.

Oh, and as Peter mentioned Cathay Pacific blows them all away.

    • Agree with this comment 100% – The Centurion Lounge HKG is the least comfortable of the six I’ve visited, with mediocre service and even more mediocre food options. I have the option of going to the Cathay lounges, and regret the time I spent outside of them. For reference, the Qantas BA lounge at the entrance to the terminals are also better than the Centurion Lounge, but not as cool as the Cathay Pacific lounges

  4. Hi Bethany,

Thanks for the review. We will fly back to SFO with United in December. Do you know how far from United gates? How is the check in procedure at Hong Kong Airport? We suppose debark from Holland America cruise ship around 7:00 AM and our flight is around 12:20 PM so we hope we will have time to spend at the lounge.

    • Not sure about UNited but I can tell you the check in process at HKG is SEAMLESS I actually messaged the other members of the MtM team about how impressed I was by their operation while I was going through security. They get you through very quickly. Once you get in, they have several customer service desks to help you navigate and answer any questions so you should be fine.
