Amex Centurion Lounge Slated for JFK Airport
Today, we received news that Amex is expanding its’ Centurion Lounge network. The newest lounge will open in JFK International Airport. Amex Platinum Cardholders currently have access to 9 Centurion Lounges. The first Centurion Lounge opened in Las Vegas in 2013. See our early review here.
The New York City area will be the first to have two Centurion Lounges. I’ve always felt it was odd that Amex chose LaGuardia as the NYC location since it is much smaller than JFK, not to mention it has a less than stellar reputation. It’s nice to see that Amex will be righting a wrong here and putting the Lounge in JFK, a very heavy volume airport. Current Centurion Locations:

- Hong Kong
- Houston
- Las Vegas
- New York
- Philadelphia
- Miami
- Seattle
- San Francisco
Key Details
The lounge will be opening in Terminal 4 in early 2019. This is also home to the following lounges; Delta Sky Club, Swiss Business Class, Wingtips, Air India, El Al King David, Etihad, Emirates, Virgin Clubhouse. Even with all the other lounges, I’m still psyched because this will be the largest Centurion Lounge at over 15,000 Square Feet across two levels. A spokesperson for Amex said it would include the usual amenities like hi-speed wifi, showers and complimentary food and bev, but it would also include special one of a kind amenities. I cannot wait to see what those are! Amex also said there would be “spectacular views of the airfield.”

This is Awesome, So Why Am I Disappointed?
I’m disappointed because Jetblue is by far my favorite airline and out of pure selfishness I would love to see my favorite lounge in the Jetblue terminal (Terminal 5). So really, I have no rational reason to be disappointed, but hey, a girl can dream. It also wouldn’t hurt to have an easy way to travel between terminals either because then you could head to Centurion when you arrive early enough.
Conclusion
As a New Yorker, this news is extremely exciting. JFK is one of the busiest terminals in the US, so I’m sure this is welcome news for many travelers. As always, I am a very happy Amex Platinum customer. As a frequent traveler to many Centurion cities, I have never questioned whether the card is worth the annual fee.

I think they were looking to make the old TWA terminal in front of Terminal 5 (Jetblue) into some sort of hotel but perhaps Priority Pass could leverage that as a lounge as well. Although that defeat the point of an airside lounge for Jetblue.
That’s interesting! I hadn’t heard that- I believe there’s a lounge in Terminal 5- Airspace maybe? I never go because I actually kind of like the Jetblue terminal, they don’t have much by way of shopping but the little shops and machine kiosks are kind of fun. Plus, I leave from there so I’ve never been stuck there.

Yes. All five boroughs are New York, NY mailing issues notwithstanding. There is no city of Queens.
If you wanna be really pedantic, all of Brooklyn is written as Brooklyn NY for postal purposes and same for Manhattan (New York NY) but Queens is all split up so it’s East Elmhurst NY (LGA) versus Jamaica NY (JFK)
