Amex is Killing the LoungeBuddy App

LoungeBuddy has long offered a valuable service for frequent travelers, helping them locate airport lounges around the world. LoungeBuddy has a website version as well as its iOS mobile app which let you search for lounges by airport or city.

The LoungeBuddy app can also has some extra features such as helping you find lounges that are available to you, if you provide information about credit cards with lounge access that you currently have in your wallet.

If you have been using this features, then we have some bad news for you.  The app is going away soon. The LoungeBuddy website notes that the app with shut down next month:

As of July 1, 2024, the LoungeBuddy iOS Mobile app will no longer be accessible. American Express Card Members can still purchase lounge access with LoungeBuddy through the LoungeBuddy website.

LoungeBuddy was acquired by American Express over five years ago, and you even get a $100 LoungeBuddy credit if you have the American Express Green card.

  1. It was a pretty lousy app, in my opinion. The reviews were mostly very dated, and I was never able to actually find a lounge at which I could use my $100 credit from Amex.

  2. How sad. I remember being so excited for the special link to download the app before it was released on App Store.
