This is something I have been kicking around in my head too.  I have some Virgin bookings right now on Delta metal that I will likely need to cancel.  Should I take the sure thing now and transfer out or should I let it play out and get more value for my airline miles?  Do I need airline miles much right now or would hotel points be more beneficial to me anyway?  Questions I need to answer for sure.

One thing Greg forgets to consider is if you have both IHG cards.  You can stack the perks for 10% back and 4th night free on award stays.  I think that should be considering in the calculations and it may sway you that way verses the better Hilton transfer rate.

Hopefully this is nothing more than a glitch.  It wouldn’t completely shock me if they stopped the transfers to cut costs, much like Southwest and others blocking gift card redemptions.

I love programs like this for people on the front lines.  McDonald’s is giving free meals as well to first responders.
