I have had to leave early twice. One was a Hilton in Brussels and we left at 5PM, the day before check out, and expected nothing but they proactively offered to refund me.  The other was for March Madness and the Hyatt was unwilling to cancel the final two days after my team lost. So very much your mileage may vary.
