Asus Chromebook Deal

Amazon has a great deal on a 13 inch Asus Chromebook for $169. If you aren’t aware, Chromebooks are simple laptops which run Google’s Chrome operating system. These devices are good for web browsing, consuming media and office/productivity. They aren’t high-end machines at all, but are really portable and great for travel.

For $169, you get a decently equipped 13.3″ laptop which comes with a 16GB SSD drive making it very fast. You can see all of the specs on the product page.

While the price is great, what makes this deal really interesting to me is that it also comes with additional bonuses from Google. Here is what you get:

  • Free 1TB storage with Google Drive* [Offer value : $9.99X24 = $239.76] Save all your photos, videos, and documents in Google Drive to access them anywhere and share them with anyone.
  • 12 free Gogo in-air internet passes** [Offer value : $16X12 passes = $192] Get online at 10,000 feet with free Gogo in-air internet passes. Includes 12 Gogo inflight Wi-Fi passes.
  • Unlimited Music from Google Play [Offer value : $9.99X2 =$19.98] Subscribe to Google Play Music from your Chromebook and the first 60 days are free. Bring your collection of up to 20,000 tracks from your iTunes library with you and introduce them to over 30 million more.

While the increased Google Drive storage and Google Play Music is ok, I don’t really value them too much. The 12 free Gogo passes can be quite valuable though if you travel a lot. They are good through the end of 2015, so you will have about a year to use them. I would personally value them at about $5 a piece since I don’t often purchase internet.

Conclusion

This is a great deal for people looking for an extra laptop for children or a simple portable device to use while traveling. I am personally buying a new higher end laptop myself (since I need a little more than this laptop to run the website) or else I would be buying this. Happy shopping!

  1. I wonder if you could buy the laptop, get the Gogo passes and then just return the laptop? did you happen to see anything preventing that in the terms and conditions of the sale?
