Australia Expected to Reopen Borders by December
Australia could soon loosen restrictions and open up to foreigners. Qantas has said that both international and domestic borders are on track to open by December 2021.
“Vaccination rates are expected to reach 70% of the eligible population during November, enabling domestic lockdowns and border restrictions to be steadily eased,” the company said in a release Thursday, revealing a $1.7 billion pandemic-related annual loss.
According to projections completed by the airline, Australia should then reach 80% vaccination in its adult population by December.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison recently confirmed that restrictions will be loosened when 70% of residents age 16 and older have been vaccinated, with international borders reopening when that rate increases to at least 80%. According to Reuters, about one-third of Australia’s adult population has been fully vaccinated while just over half (53 percent) have received at least one dose.
The flag carrier has long been a strong advocate for vaccination, pledging that all international passengers on long-haul flights will require a COVID vaccine to fly.
“Our position on this is clear. We have a duty of care to our people and our passengers, and once a safe and effective vaccine becomes readily available, it will be a requirement for travel on our international services,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.

exactly, plus the vaccinated will keep getting covid and need more shots!
I don’t believe that Australia has any serious intention of opening their borders for YEARS, if ever. While there are some who realize that they’re going to have to learn to live with COVID, there are too many people who want to make like New Zealand for me to think this has a snowball’s chance in hell of happening.
