Bally’s Wants to Open Casino at Trump Golf Course in The Bronx
Proposals for new NYC casinos keep on coming ever since the release of the New York State Gaming Commission’s Request for Application for three downstate New York gaming licenses. Each license will cost at least $500 million.
Bally’s is looking to open a casino in The Bronx, right next to the Trump Organization’s public golf course at Ferry Point. NYP reports that Bally’s is aiming to use 17 of the 300 acres from the gold course to operate a casino.
The property located right off the Whitestone Bridge in the South Bronx is owned by the city and the Trump Organization, so approval could prove trickier. The real estate company has a 20-year contract with the Parks Department to operate it as a golf course.
Bally’s plan would only require 10 acres for its casino, with the other seven going to a green space or other uses such as housing for workers, according to NYP sources. But the long term plan would be Bally’s to take over the entire property, a former garbage dump.
Bally’s has the only bid for a casino in The Bronx. Previous proposals include locations in Hudson Yards, 5th Avenue, Times Square, and next to UN Headquarters in Manhattan, Coney Island in Brooklyn, Willets Point in Queens and Nassau County on Long Island.
