Barbados Requires Travelers Wear Tracking Bracelets During Quarantine

Some Caribbean countries have seen an uptick in Covid-19 numbers in recent months. Barbados is one of them. The country has a total of 1,857 cases and 20 deaths. But 13 of those deaths have occurred since January 20th as new cases have spiked during the new year.

To fight the spread of the Covid-19 virus and to make sure that visitors follow the latest COVID-19 protocols, officials in Barbados are now requiring tourists in the mandatory quarantine program to wear electronic monitoring bracelets.

Tourists arriving from another country are required to get a negative coronavirus PCR test three days before arrival and another five days after they arrive. While they await the results of that second test, visitors must quarantine. To ensure visitors follow the quarantine rules, they will be forced to wear tracking bracelets.

According to Visit Barbados, the bracelet is water-resistant and tamper-resistant and “keeps travelers and locals safe by ensuring visitors remain within the designated quarantine location.” The bracelet is also connected to the BIMSafe app, which travelers are expected to download before they arrive at the island. Travelers will be required to input self-temperature checks in the app every day.

Once visitors receive a negative result for the second Covid-19 test, they can finally leave their hotel rooms as long as they follow the island’s coronavirus restrictions. That includes wearing masks in public and following the curfew, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.. Those who fail to follow the rules, face fines up to $50,000.

  1. Because I want to Ghostrider! Everyone has to decide their own risk tolerance. I take precautions but am living my life. Just got back from a golf trip and have 2 casino trips coming up in February (have been on 10-12 casino trips since June).

I’m comfortable with my decisions so you live your life and I will live mine.
