Become A Frontier Pilot With New Pilot Training Academy
The global pilot shortage is a major issue for airlines for years to come. So Frontier is taking matters into its own hands with the launch of its pilot training academy.
The airline is targeting people who have no prior flying experience with its Flight Cadet Program. The program, operated in partnership with ATP Flight School, will welcome up to 35 individuals per month who seek to become commercial airline pilots.
Cadets will receive assistance in applying for financial aid to help offset training and living expenses with the program lasting approximately 24 months. During the program period participants will receive certain Frontier benefits.
“We really want to provide an opportunity for aspiring pilots,” Brad Lambert, the Vice President of Flight Operations for Frontier Airlines, told 9 News Denver. “We also want to be able to control our destiny going forward.”
Applications for the program are open to anyone who wants to learn to fly, the airline says. But there are a couple of requirements. Cadets must be at least 19 years old, willing to relocate, and clear a background check. An associate degree or higher is preferred but not required.
Participants must pass all required tests as well as obtain all necessary certifications prior to becoming a Frontier pilot. There are also partnerships with aviation university programs, to create a complete academic training experience.
The cadets chosen will have to complete the two-year program, spend 15 hours in the sky, and earn an Airline Transport Pilot License. “Our training program doesn’t change, they have to meet all the requirements of our training program. They will be safe, proficient pilots by the time they will come to us,” said Lambert.
Individuals who are interested in the program may visit the Flight Cadet Program website for additional information and to access the application.
