CDC Easies Restrictions for 110 Countries

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated rating for more than a 100 countries with most of them moving in the right direction.

The CDC moved 61 nations from the highest “Level 4” rating to “Level 3”, Reuters reported. The CDC says to avoid travel to “Level 4” destinations. If you must travel to these destinations, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel. For “Level 3” countries you must be fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers should avoid nonessential travel to those destinations.

Countries that moved from level 4 to 3 include France, Ecuador, the Philippines, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Honduras, Indonesia, Panama, Poland, Denmark and Malaysia. Japan which hosts the Olympics this summer, is also included. Foreign spectators have been banned however, and organizers are expected to make a decision this month on domestic spectators. The United States itself also moved to “Level 3”, down from “Level 4”.

An additional 50 countries and territories have been lowered to “Level 2” or “Level 1,” a CDC spokeswoman said. Countries ranked lowest for COVID-19 risks now include Singapore, Israel, South Korea, Iceland, Belize and Albania.

The latest changes are due to evolving conditions in respective countries but also because the State Department updated its methodology. You can see more details and rating for each country and territory here.

  1. What a mess. My wife has a sister who lives in Japan. Been trying to get to see her, but it is impossible. She has stage 4 cancer with less than a year to live. Japan bans U.S. Citizens from going. Bummer. I keep buying tickets and have to cancel them.
