CDC Adds More Popular Destinations to Highest Risk Category
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) added four more countries to its list of “very high” risk travel destinations this week. Three of these countries are in Europe, while another is in the Caribbean.
The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Faroe Islands were added to the CDC’s highest risk category Monday afternoon. There were previously listed as Level 3, or “high” risk for Covid-19.
In the Caribbean, the Cayman Islands received a Level 4 designation as well as cases have surged in recent weeks. Cayman Islands was also listed as Level 3 before this week.
On the other hand, four destinations moved rom Level 4 to Level 3. That includes Iran, Sint Maarten, Thailand and the Republic of Congo.
The top risk category, “Level 4: Very high level of COVID-19”, now has 80 countries. Americans are warned that they should “avoid travel” to countries in this category. Anyone who must travel should be fully vaccinated first, the agency advises.
Countries in the Level 4 category have had more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. You can see the full list here.
