Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Quarter 2 2022

Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Quarter 2 2022

Chase Freedom Flex is one of the more popular rewards credit cards. With no annual fee, 5X rotating bonus categories, 3X on dining and drugstores and points that convert to Ultimate Rewards when paired with a premium card, it is a product worth considering.

While some of their competitors like to release bonus categories well ahead of time, Chase only does so a few weeks before the start of the quarter. And today, Chase Freedom announced the new rotating quarterly categories for Freedom and Freedom Flex cardmembers for the second quarter of 2022.

The quarterly categories allow cardmembers to earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases for three months. Let’s take a look at the details.

Chase Freedom April – June, 2022 Bonus Categories

Here are the just announced bonus categories for Chase Freedom Flex and the discontinued Chase Freedom card. Starting April 1 through June 30, 2022, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cardmembers can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases on the following:

  • Amazon: Purchases made at Amazon.com including digital downloads, Amazon.com Gift Cards, Amazon.com Fresh orders, Amazon.com Prime subscriptions, and items sold by third party merchants through Amazon.com’s marketplace.
  • Select streaming services: Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Vudu, Fubo TV, Apple Music, Sirius XM, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube TV, HBO Max, Paramount+, Peacock, Showtime

You can activate the bonus categories on this page.

Chase Freedom Flex Welcome Offer

If you don’t currently have the Chase Freedom Flex card (and aren’t over 5/24), it can be a great first card to get with Chase and it has a decent bonus right now.

  • The Offer: Earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Pay no annual fee and receive a 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases.

More Info

Along with 5% rotating categories, Freedom Flex cardmembers can earn cash back on a variety of other purchases including: 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase’s Ultimate Rewards, 3% cash back on dining and drugstores, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. In addition to these rewards, Freedom Flex cardmembers receive World Elite Mastercard Benefits, including cell phone protection and perks with Lyft, Shoprunner, and more, along with Priceless Experiences.

Conclusion

This quarter’s 5% categories are definitely not very exciting. Earning more cash back on streaming services for just three months is probably not worth the work of switching payments on all account now and then again at the end of June. Amazon is a better option to maximize the 5% back for next quarter, but it’s still a merchant where some people already earn 5% with an Amazon card, or by buying Amazon gift cards and earning 5% anyway.

What do you plan to do to max out your $1,500 in Chase Freedom Flex 5X spend?

  1. We have the Chase Amazon 5% so the only benefit with the Flex 5% on Amazon would be to combine points to the Sapphire Reserve and get the 50% bonus, effectively making it 7.5%.

Correct me if I am wrong.

  2. I used to get really excited about the Amazon quarter…now it’s kinda meh. Plus I’ve gotten in the habit of adding small Amazon GC to my grocery purchases so I’m earning 4X MRs or 5X UR anyway.
Amazon isn’t as cheap as they used to be, and shipping speeds are abysmal. More and more we find ourselves going to local brick and mortar stores, but that might change with gas prices so high.
