Chase Mistakenly Opening Sapphire Reserve Cards
Earlier this week Chase introduced a new feature in the application process for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. When you apply, you will find out before the application is submitted if you are eligible for the welcome bonus.
This is similar to the Amex pop-up, and it lets you proceed without the welcome bonus or cancel the application. But it looks like the process is not perfect as some people are getting approved even after selecting to withdraw their application.
The news was first shared by Frequent Miler who report on at least two such cases where Chase still opened a new Chase Sapphire Reserve card after applicants canceled the application.
I doubt this is a widespread issue considering how many people have applied for the card in recent days, but it’s worth keeping in mind and checking your inbox for an unexpected approval email.
If this does happen to you, it’s best to contact Chase right away and let them know about the issue. It’s also a good idea to take screenshots during all credit card applications, just so you have some kind of proof when things like this happen.
