Chase Officially Reveals Sapphire Reserve Changes

As expected, Chase revealed all the details about the refreshed Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. We already knew most of the details through various leaks over the last few weeks, but there is also new information that wasn’t revealed previously.

One important note is that the $300 travel credit is here to stay. Chase is also getting rid of the “one Sapphire card” limit and they’re launching a new approval tool similar to American Express. One thing we don’t know yet is the welcome bonus, but it is rumored to be a big one when it launches on June 23, 2025.

Earning Points

The Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card will earn:

  • 8x Chase Travel bookings for hotels, cars and flights
  • 5x total points on Lyft rides through Sept 30, 2027
  • 4x on hotels and flights booked direct
  • 3x points on dining at restaurants worldwide, including eligible delivery.
  • 1x on all other purchases.

Annual Fee

The annual fee for Primary cardholders is going up to $795, from $550. Authorized users will cost  $195, up from $75.

If you’re an existing cardmember or applied for the card prior to June 23, 2025, your benefits and annual fee will remain unchanged through October 25, 2025.

As of October 26, 2025, you will get an additional $1,500+ in annual value with your Sapphire Reserve card. After this date, on your anniversary, your annual fee will adjust to $795 and each authorized user fee to $195.

1.5x Redemption Going Away

The flat rate of redeeming points at a value of 1.5 cents through Chase travel is going away. But, points earned prior to 10/26/25 can still be redeemed for 1.5x on Chase Travel through 10/26/27.

Conclusion

The annual fee increase is the first thing that stands out as you will soon have to $245 more every year. Authorized users will also have to pay more.

There are many new benefits as well, but the coupon book style also means that you need to do extra work to maximize the value that you get out of them.

For the first year the card should definitely be worth if there is indeed a big bonus. After that, you need to really go through the list of benefits and decide for yourself if they’re worth paying $795.

  1. If the SUB is high enough I would consider it but then drop after the first year.

After that, it’s not a keeper for me. I don’t go out to eat a lot, rarely to upscale restaurants; I live in a rural area and have no need for rideshare services except when on trips – so only occasionally; Door Dash credits mean nothing to me, the extra cost of delivery services rarely make it worthwhile vice picking it up myself – unless I’m sick; I have more than enough streaming services, don’t need Apple TV; no use for StubHub, I go to events maybe once in a blue moon; I don’t have a Peleton and won’t get one just to get a $10 credit.

These banks seem to think everyone is a trendy, major city dweller like something out of the old Sex and the City series.

  2. The #1 takeaway from all this for me is that I will not have to pay the higher fee until September 2026, and I can start using new benefits in October, and still keep using some of the old ones going away through October 2027. This is a clear win until September 2026, and I will reassess then based on what I experience for a year.

  3. Hard no. couponing out of control. The Edit hotels? No Chase Reserve Exclusive Tables? No Door dash? No Apple bundle? No
