Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Guest Policy

Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Guest Policy

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is a beast when it comes to earnings and rewards considering it gets 3X Ultimate Rewards points on dining and travel, but some could say it falls short on some travel benefits compared to other premium cards. For example, it doesn’t come with hotel elite status and has only limited lounge access.

Specifically:

  • The Amex Platinum card comes with Delta SkyClub and Priority Pass Select access for the main cardholder and Amex Centurion lounge access for the cardholder and two guests or immediate family.
  • The Citi Prestige currently gives Admiral’s Club access including two guests or immediate family (ending July, 2017) and Priority Pass Select including up to two guests.

One of the big questions about the Sapphire Reserve has been whether or not the Priority Pass Select membership included is more like the Prestige with complimentary guests or the Amex Platinum without any complimentary guests. Now, it seems we might have an answer, although it isn’t 100% complete.

Sapphire Reserve Benefits Guide

Last night I received my shiny new Sapphire Reserve card in the mail. In the package is a beautiful glossy benefits guide. On one of the pages is the following:

Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Guest Policy

I would say that language is fairly clear and gives me confidence in saying that guests are included. Thankfully, I was able to find even more confirmation of sorts. Yesterday, in their official press release announcing the new card (apparently there were people on the planet who didn’t know about it), they used the following language:

Priority Pass Select membership providing access to 900+ airport lounges in over 400 cities worldwide for cardmembers and their travel companions.

Now the word complimentary is missing from this language, but combined with the benefits guide, I think guests are most likely included. Of course how many guests is still a question. Is it like the City National Bank Visa Infinite with unlimited guests or will their be a cap at two? We will probably have to wait for our welcome letters from Priority Pass to come.

Conclusion

There is a chance I suppose that Chase has just poorly worded their Benefits Guide, but it does seem that guests are included with the Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Select membership. At a time when Citi has gutted their Prestige card, Chase is continuing to amaze with this product that goes toe to toe with every single travel rewards card on the market.

  1. The guest policy is very different from airport to airport. The lounge in Cebu Philippines does not allow any guests. The lounge in PHX denied me entrance because I was not there during the very limited hours that they honor PP. The lounge in PDX denied entry due to being over capacity. The lounge in Seoul let me bring in my companions. It seems to be a bit hit or miss.

  2. It’s a great and generous policy that Chase Reserve priority pass select will allow guests as well. However, it’s important not to abuse it lest we lose the privilege to bring guests. If the benefits lead to people abusing the system, it would not be surprising for the program benefits to change. It has happened with other cards before. Perfect example of “just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”

    • I agree with this and feel that most people probably don’t abuse it. Either you are traveling with people or you aren’t. I for one am not recruiting people I don’t know in the terminal to be my free guests!

  3. Each premium card has its advantages and disadvantages. It really depends on the needs of the individual user. However, in my opinion, the Prestige card was heads and shoulders above the Reserve and AMEX Platinum before its recent devaluation. It is good to see that the Reserve Priority Pass appears to allow complimentary guest access.

  4. Not sure “toe to toe” is really right. Amex has delta clubs and centurion lounges. Citi had admiral clubs and a hotel discount.
