Citi is Cracking Down on Matching Credit Card Offers

Citi has long been one of the more generous banks when it comes to matching signup offers for credit cards. We usually see different offers for the same Citi card. Some are targeted, some public, some offer points only and some other points and statement credits. And you can send a message to get matched to the best offer that you see, as long as you’ve applied within the last three months. Citi almost always gave you as much as 20,000 more points if a new better offer was available.

But recently there’s been some issues with getting matched for these better offers, as Doctor of Credit reports. Some reps are requesting links or pictures of mailers for targeted offers. Some others are just refusing to match to e better offer altogether.

That doesn’t mean that Citi no longer matches signup bonuses for credit cards. But you should be aware that it’s no longer a guarantee that you will get matched. Sometimes people choose to apply for an offer that gives you points and a statement credit and then match to a higher points offer.

Let us know if you’ve had any issues with getting matched for better offers by Citi.
