Citi Prestige Cell Phone Protection Benefit

Details of the Citi Prestige Cell Phone Protection Benefit

Citi Prestige has been revamped and relaunched with a signup offer of 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 within 3 months of account opening. Some benefits were removed or watered down and some new perks were announced. One of those perks is Citi Prestige Cell Phone Protection Benefit, which will be added on May 1, 2019.

Citi Prestige Cell Phone Protection

A Citi representative reached out to us with some more details regarding this new benefit. This is what was provided:

Starting in May, Citi Prestige cardmembers can look forward to cell phone protection of up to $1,000 per claim, up to $1,500 per year, for damage or theft of up to five eligible cell phones when the monthly cell phone bill is paid with the Prestige card. Any claim made under the protection benefit will require a $50 deductible per phone, and cardmembers will be able to easily file claims online.

I asked for some more details, and I’ll update once we have more information about the claim process and if they mean a calendar year, or membership year.

Conclusion

From the information provided, this would probably make Citi Prestige one of the best cards to use for phone service. The $1,000 per claim limit is the best out there, and more in line with prices for the best new phones.

  1. Right now I pay my $200.00 a month T-Mobile bill on a Chase Ink that gives me 5x points. That is a cash value of $10.00 or much more when used for travel.

So switching to the Prestige for this benefit would be like paying $10.00 or more a month for the insurance.

Please let me know if I’m missing something.
