Select Citi Cardholders Can Earn Referral Bonuses

Citi is sending emails to select cardholders with an offer to earn up to $500 annually when they refer friends to sign up for a credit card. If eligible to refer, you can earn $100 per referral with a maximum of $500 per year.

The offers were sent out by email and you need to enroll before referring anyone. Offer valid until 12/31/2022.

One such email that was reported on reddit was the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Card. The signup bonus through the referral link is only 50,000 miles. That is inferior to the current public offer of 75,000 miles.

Citi has previously offered referral bonuses as well. I believe we last saw this option about four years ago. I’m not sure if Citi Double Cash or ThankYou cards are included in referrals this time around. If you are targeted for those cards, then most likely you’ll see these bonuses:

  • Get 10,000 ThankYou points when referring a friend to Citi ThankYou Premier card. Max 5 referrals per year.
  • Get 10,000 American Airlines miles when referring a friend to Citi AA Platinum Select card. Max 5 referrals per year.

Conclusion

It’s good to see Citi offering the option to refer friends or family members to signup for cards and earn a referral bonus. You can now earn up to $500 when referring a total of five friends.

However, you should make sure that the signup bonus through referral links matches the best current offer. It doesn’t make sense to apply for a 50K bonus just to earn an additional $100, when you can sign up through a 75K offer.
