Citi Reveals Conversion Details and Timeline for Barclays AAdvantage Cards
Citi has revealed that Barclays AAdvantage credit cards will soon convert to Citi cards. This was already planned after Citi reached a deal with American Airlines just over a year ago, making it the exclusive issuer of the AAdvantage® co-branded card portfolio in the U.S. in 2026.
Now we have a timeline as well as the details of what cards current Barclays AAdvantage cardholders can expect in the mail.
On April 24, 2026, Barclays AAdvantage Aviator credit card accounts will be automatically transferred to Citi and AAdvantage Aviator cards will be converted to a Citi® / AAdvantage® credit cards.
You will be able to continue using your Barclays AAdvantage card as usual as long as your account remains open. From April 24, 2026 – April 26, 2026, you will not be able to log into your online or mobile account with either Citi or Barclays, but you can do so on or after April 27th when the conversion is complete.
Rest assured AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points earned from transactions made on your AAdvantage® Aviator® Mastercard® and deposited to your AAdvantage® account are not affected by this transition. Any AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points earned from transactions made on your AAdvantage® Aviator® Mastercard® will be posted to your AAdvantage® account 8-10 weeks following earning activity.
So what card can you expect in the mail once the conversion is completed? Here’s the list:
- Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red ➡️ Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select
- Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Silver ➡️ Citi / AAdvantage Globe
- Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Blue ➡️ Citi / AAdvantage Gold

On citi’s FAQ website, no clear info on whether progress toward the AA Companion Pass will be honored for current Aviator Red cardholders (vs. killing that benefit mid-cycle – the Citi Platinum doesn’t have that benefit), nor whether the Companion Pass will be downgraded from a double pass to a single pass for Aviator Silver cardholders (since the Globe’s companion pass is a single). Please let us know if you find anything on either front.
