  1. Citibank is up to old tricks. My new Citi Strata Premier arrived yesterday and promptly had problems. I filled up a the gas station, no problem. I then headed to Best Buy and tried to use Samsung Pay with my new card. The transaction was immediately declined for “Fraud Prevention”. I called up the foreign based “Fraud Prevention” department and was asked for my Home Phone and any other Citi accounts that I don’t have. My card is now locked for the next 7-10 business days until a physical letter arrives to my home. They refused to use my cell phone to instantly verify my identity like EVERY other credit card issuer uses.
Mark Ostermann had the same problem 3 years ago and seemed hopeful that this nonsense was going to improve. If you do have a new Citi card be careful with Apple or Samsung pay. There are hundreds of posts on the internet about people having their accounts locked over and over. My advice is to avoid any Citibank credit cards until they get their act together.
