Citi ThankYou Points Will Be Worth 25% Less

Citi sent out emails to many Strata Premier and Prestige cardholders, informing them that ThankYou Points with be worth less starting August 24th.

This latest devaluation is only about redeeming ThankYou points for cash back. Instead of a value of 1 cent per point, you will soon receive only 0.75 cents per ThankYou point. That’s 25% less value.

We are writing to let you know that we are making a change to the ThankYou® Rewards Program. Effective 08‍/24‍/‍25, the redemption value for Cash Back redeemed through the ThankYou Rewards account associated with your Citi Strata Premier® will change.

Current Value for Cash Back: 10,000 ThankYou Rewards Points are redeemable for $100.

New Value for Cash Back, effective 08‍/24‍/‍25: 10,000 ThankYou Rewards Points are redeemable for $75.

You may redeem ThankYou Points for Cash Back at the current redemption value through 08‍/23‍/‍25. After that, the new redemption value will apply.

Not all Citi cardholders have received this email, and not even all Strata Premier and Prestige cardholders.

Conclusion

Most cardholders who are into miles and points are probably using ThankYou points by transferring them to travel partners in order to maximize value.

But having the option to cash out at 1 cent per point is still a safety net, or just another avenue of using points if you do have more points that you need for travel. Now that option is being devalued by 25%.
