Extend Your Stay Just Got Sweeter

Yesterday I wrote in detail about Club Carlson’s Extend Your Stay promotion. The promotion awards a bonus of 15,000 points for stays of 2 nights and 30,000 points for stays of 3 or more nights.

In yesterday’s post I broke down the math of why this promotion may be mattress run worthy. (Click here to find out how to do a calendar search to find the cheapest dates.) Today I found something else that makes the promotion even sweeter for some.

The Extra Bonus Offer

My wife was actually the person targeted, not me.

While perusing through my email, I found a message from Club Carlson. I almost had to do a double take, because it was full of good info. The message reads:

We enjoyed welcoming you last year, and want to thank you for your continued loyalty. As a token of our appreciation, we’re offering you exclusive early-bird access to our next promotion Extend Your Stay, Earn 30k before it’s announced to the public.

Plus, you can get a jump start on earning Gold Points® this year. Register for the Extend Your Stay, Earn 30k promotion by January 12, and we’ll award you with an additional 10,000 bonus points after your first Eligible Stay of two or more nights between January 12 and March 29, 2015.

Did you see what got me so excited? If my wife registers for the promotion by January 12, she will get an additional 10,000 bonus points on her first stay of 2 or more nights. That means that for a three night stay she will earn 40,000 bonus points plus 20 points per dollar, 35% bonus points & 10x points on her credit card.

To figure out the economics, head over to yesterday’s post to look at the math and then add 10,000 more points! If we can find a cheap Carlson property, this now definitely makes sense for a mattress run.

Conclusion

This targeted offer makes a great deal even better. The economics of this promotions are very favorable now and Extend Your Stay has definitely become my preferred Q1 2015 hotel promo.

  1. Many thanks for this helpful set of posts — with good math and tips. Superb site you have going here, lucid, succinct, yet supported… w/o mysterious code language. (h/t to Greg at frequent miler for pointing us here)

  2. My Wife & I received the 10K offer. If we both had a three night stay @ $100 per night, we’d receive about 102K points. 100K points would get us four nights @ a very decent 50K point hotel. I would value those four nights in the $1,200 – $1,500 range. Overall not a bad deal, but my MS every month gives me 100K for a fraction (17%) of the $600 for a mattress run.

  3. I am Club Carlson Gold and have 2 paid stays in 2014. Did not receive a targeted offer.
My wife is Silver and had no stays in 2014. She did receive the extra 10,000 points offer.

    • Did her email have the same language? That is strange. Both my wife and I had stays last year, however I had quite a few more, but they were all on awards. Maybe they targeted less frequent guests.

  4. It’s a great promotion, but I’m not sure about a mattress run. If you can find a room for $200 for 3 nights all in, that’s 7400 points, plus 40000 bonus, for 47400 points, or .42 cents per point. CC has regularly sold points for less than that.

    • They have sold them for .4 cents per point a couple of times, but that isn’t a regular promotion. Since this is as good as the lowest price they have ever sold points for then I do think it could be mattress run worthy for the right scenario.

I always encourage people to have a use for their points. Just like I wouldn’t recommend blindly buying these points during a sale, I wouldn’t recommend doing a mattress run just for the points here.

If someone did have an upcoming trip over the summer or a hotel they need the points for, this is a great way to get a nice chunk for a very cheap price.

Since there is no way to know if/when the .4 cents promotion will come back for buying miles, this is a nice way for someone to earn enough for an upcoming trip.

I still think ideally the best way to approach this promo is to shift upcoming travel if you have any. It definitely makes sense then.

      Thanks Harold!

    • Purchasing miles is a good deal at .40 or lower BUT has an annual cap. Therefore, earning miles is always better since it has no cap.
