Dallas Fort Worth Airport Will Have a New Terminal
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and American Airlines have agreed to build a sixth passenger terminal, the first such expansion of the airport since 2005. They will also update Terminal C, which is the only original terminal from 1974 that has not yet been renovated. That’s the terminal where American Airlines already operates.
Initial plans call for DFW Airport, which is jointly co-owned by the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, to invest up to $3.5 billion for the renovations. The identified site for a new terminal south of Terminal D is currently a parking area. The terminal link shuttle already passes through the area in anticipation of the new Terminal F. Up to 24 new gates would be included in the new terminal in phases, as demand for additional space is warranted.
Design work for Terminal F will begin immediately and it’s expected to open in 2025.
DFW is No. 4 in passenger traffic in the U.S. and No. 4 in the world in daily departures. It has more than 1,000 daily departures to 250 cities. The airport expects 73 million passengers in 2019, over 30% more than a decade ago.
