Ian kicks off the list with his contrarian take on the American Express Platinum card. It is a good reminder that what works for you depends entirely on your situation. There is really no one card that works for everyone.
I wish I could say this article changed some things, and maybe it did for a few people out there. But it is a few weeks later and I still see a lot of the same stuff. After Ryan had his game plan lined up for earning elite status in 2020 Marriott changed the terms of their meeting program. This game a few years after the severely reduced how many elite nights you could earn from the program to 10 per year. They then reduced it to 0. The one constant in this game is that you have to make adjustments on the fly as program terms change. This was the last straw for Ryan, with all of the other Marriott issues he decided to end his quest for status a year earlier than originally intended.

The biggest story of December was American Airlines shutting down frequent flyer accounts without any notice or real explanation. They appear to still be closing down accounts a few at a time to this day. Some people even had their flights canceled in the middle of their trip or their holiday plans vanish at the very last minute. Is it a foreshadowing of things to come with loyalty programs? Let’s hope not!
That’s A Wrap!
