Delta Airlines Raises Checked Bag Fees
Delta Air Lines revealed today a $5 increase in its baggage fees. The Atlanta-based carrier will now charge $35 to check a bag one way, and a second bag will cost $45.
This marks the first fee increase for U.S. domestic markets in six years, since 2018, according to Delta. The airline says that these adjustments are necessary to keep up with the rising industry costs.
The higher fees kick in today, but they do not apply to tickets purchased before March 5, 2024.
Delta noted in a press release that Delta SkyMiles Medallion Members, customers flying with First Class, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One itineraries, as well as those with eligible co-branded Delta SkyMiles® American Express Cards, will continue to receive their allotment of complimentary checked bags.
The announcement comes weeks after American Airlines announced a price increase for its checked baggage. Shortly after that , United Airlines said its checked baggage will cost more. Other carriers such as JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have also raised prices this year.
