Delta Air Lines Will Soon Offer Free Wi-Fi Nationwide
Delta Air Lines first announced plans to offer free Wi-Fi back in March of 2019 when CEO Ed Bastian stated the carrier’s goal is “to make WiFi free with high speed quality.” The Atlanta-based airline then started testing the service a couple of months later with a two-week pilot across all cabins on select short-, medium- and long-haul routes.
Ed Bastians said back then that it would take about a year or two for Delta to implement free Wi-Fi on all domestic flights. But the pandemic happened and the airline industry was hit the hardest. Now that air travel is roaring back, it looks like Delta’s plans to offer free Wi-Fi are also getting back on track.
An internal memo that was first reported by Thrifty Traveler, shows that Delta is once again testing the free service on some domestic flights, with plans to finally launch complimentary Wi-Fi on all domestic flights “soon”.
The airline said it will soon launch complimentary inflight Wi-Fi service on its domestic mainline routes, but a specific date wasn’t revealed. But the internal memo says that by the end of 2024, Delta plans to expand free Wi-Fi to international routes too.
“Bringing our vision for the future of travel to life requires putting our technology through rigorous tests, scrutinizing every detail to ensure customers are getting speed and reliability that exceeds their expectations,” Glenn Latta, Delta’s managing director for in-flight connectivity, told Thrifty Traveler. “We will offer complementary Wi-Fi on a select number of flights this summer to test our technology and gain valuable insights that will enable us to offer Wi-Fi on Delta that is as fast and reliable as possible for every customer.”

I’m avoiding Delta airlines right now whenever possible. Their customer service is virtually non-existent. Having to explain yourself via text messaging is exhausting and they cant even send out a cancellation letter that I need for a trip delay claim. Been waiting weeks for one.
A far cry from their pre-Covid days. Also considering cancelling their credit cards.
