Delta Launching Free Wi-Fi on Most Domestic Flights
Delta Air Lines will launch free Wi-Fi service on most of its US flights starting next month.
The airline made the announcement at the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas. CEO Ed Bastian said the airline is striving to make connectivity on board planes similar to what travelers get on the ground.
Starting February 1st, you’ll be able to browse, stream, message, shop, work and more in the air, from takeoff to touchdown for free. All domestic flights will have free Wi-Fi by 12/30/23. It will expand to international and Delta Connection flights by the end of 2024.
The service will use equipment from Viasat, a US-based satellite broadband provider.
Customers will need a Delta SkyMiles account in order to use the free Wi-Fi service. That’s Delta’s frequent-flyer program, which is also free to join.
Connect to fast, free Wi-Fi in 3 easy steps:
- Step 1: In your device Settings, switch on Airplane Mode, then turn your Wi-Fi on.
- Step 2: Choose “DeltaWiFi.com” from the list of available networks. If you are not automatically redirected to the Wi-Fi sign in page, navigate to DeltaWiFi.com in your browser.
- Step 3: Sign in to your SkyMiles® account or create a SkyMiles account to connect to free Wi-Fi. You can also purchase a Wi-Fi Flight Pass.
