Denmark to Introduce Covid Passports to Boost Tourism
Denmark has been hard hit by the pandemic as many other countries around the world. But the kingdom has been efficient with its vaccination efforts and plan to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to whole population by June. That is expected to help it economy reopen, and hopefully to soon get back to normal.
The next step is to bring back tourists, and doing so safely. That could be done with what is being called a coronavirus passport. That should also help with Danes that want to travel abroad.
Denmark’s acting finance minister Morten Bødskov together with Lars Sandahl Sørensen, the CEO of Danish Industry and Brian Mikkelsen, the CEO of the Danish Chamber of Commerce, have confirmed that a coronavirus passport will be launched in simple form by the end of February. This coronavirus digital passport is documentation proving that you have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
At launch, the Covid Passports will initially be available to business travelers. The aim is to have a more complete technological solution in three to four months.
Denmark has a population of 5.8 million people. So far it has recorded 204,000 cases and a total of 2,292 deaths. It has fared better than other countries in terms of cases and deaths, but it experienced a surge in new COVID-19 cases in December. The country introducing its second lockdown in January, and since then, the number of cases have significantly dropped.
