Discover’s 3rd quarter bonus categories are now available for registration. This upcoming quarter, the 5% categories include Walmart and Grocery Stores. These categories should be easy to maximize!
How It Works
The Discover it card earns 5% cashback on up to the first $1,500 in bonus category spend per quarter. If you are able to fully maximize the benefit then you can earn $75 cash back every 3 months. That’s a total of $300 every year.
Activate
You have to activate the bonus before making your purchases in order to get the 5% back. The 1st quarter bonus categories can be activated now by visiting this page and logging into your account.
Key Terms
Here are the terms that explain which purchases will earn the 5% cashback in the 3rd quarter:
- Grocery Store purchases include those made at supermarkets, meat lockers, bakeries, smaller grocery stores, and grocery delivery services. All purchases made from Target, convenience stores, wholesale clubs, and discount stores are not eligible.
- Walmart purchases include those made at Walmart.com, through the Walmart app, in-store at Walmart Discount Stores, Walmart Supercenter Stores, Walmart Neighborhood Market Stores, Curbside Pickup, Walmart +, and Walmart Gas Stations. Purchases using Walmart Pay with your Discover Card will also be included. Purchases from individual merchants and stand-alone stores within physical Walmart locations may not be eligible for this promotion. Sam’s Club purchases are not eligible. Purchases made through affiliates of Walmart.com are not a part of this promotion.
Maximizing
Grocery Store purchases are one of the most popular categories. A big family can probably maximize the offer in three months. But these stores usually sell gift cards as well.
Walmart is also popular as you can purchase groceries and pretty much everything else..
That will make it easy to complete the $1,500 in spending from June till September 2024.
2nd Quarter Reminder
As a reminder Discover is paying 5% on Gas Stations & Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, Home Improvement Stores, and Public Transit in the 2nd quarter (through June 30).
Get the Card
If you don’t have the Discover it card currently, you can earn double cashback your first year. That means you earn 2% cashback on normal purchases and 10% cashback on bonus category purchases.
The card also has a $100 signup bonus.
