Chase Acquiring Major Credit Card Rewards Business
JPMorgan Chase announced in a press release that it has agreed to purchase one of the largest third-party credit-card loyalty operators. The bank will acquire cxLoyalty Group, a privately-held company based in Stamford. The deal includes cxLoyalty’s leading technology platforms, full service travel agency, gift card, merchandise, and points bank businesses.
cxLoyalty will operate as a business unit within JPMC. About half of the company’s 3,100 employees will also move over to JPMorgan Chase. You can see the full press release here.
Chase and cxLoyalty actually worked together until 2018, before Expedia took over Chase Ultimate rewards portal. So the acquisition is expected to bring the rewards management back in house.
With Expedia taking over, booking through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal was expected to improve with more choices for flights and hotels. However, after two plus years, I think most people would be happy to see things go back to the old system powered by cxLoyalty.
Disney Coming Back To The Ultimate Rewards Portal?
If you love Disney, then you are probably excited to possibly see Chase going back to the old portal. Disney hotels at Disney World can’t be booked from the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal since the switch to Expedia was made. You can still use Chase Ultimate Rewards points now to book stays at Disney World at non Disney hotels, and get some of the perks of staying at a Disney hotels.
Being able to book Disney stays and tickets with points would definitely be a welcomed change. It can give you some savings on what would usually be a scary price tag. You can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards through the portal for 1.5 cents if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. With the Chase Sapphire Preferred you get 1.25 cents per point. For those who have an easy way to accrue points, this could be a good use of points.
Conclusion
It’s not a guarantee that Disney hotels and park tickets will be an option again in the Chase portal. But if that happens, it should make some Disney fans happy.
Let us know if you would use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for your next Disney trip!

Hi! I believe you haven’t cover this change to the Disney GC: https://www.disneygiftcard.com/Home/Notice
It is important to me because I felt I didn’t need to be so organized about Disney GC, having the site storing my cards and being able to transfer the funds from between each other (i.e. if I didn’t find the physical card of one of them).
Dreams really do come true..
